Welcome to the website of the Rockland County Women’s Bar Association. Please spend some time navigating our website. You only need to click and fill out our membership application, read about our numerous activities and events, learn more about the mission and history of the Rockland County Women's Bar Association and acquaint yourself with our officers, board and members.
This year is the thirty-first (31st) anniversary of the Rockland County Women's Bar Association. Last year the Rockland County Women's Bar Association had the most members it has ever had in its thirty-one (31) year existence. This increase in membership has given the Rockland County Women's Bar Association a second delegate to the Women's Bar Association of the State of New York (WBASNY) and a greater voice on the State level. We thank every one of our members for increasing our membership to unprecedented levels, and we hope this trend continues.
When you become a member of the Rockland County Women's Bar Association you automatically become a member of WBASNY. The Women's Bar Association of the State of New York is the second largest state bar association in the State of New York. The State legislature seeks WBASNY's input on significant legislation, such as the Women's Equality Act, increasing the number of family court judges and amendments to spousal maintenance. WBASNY participates in interviewing judicial candidates; including providing the Governor with input regarding candidates to the New York State Court of Appeals. WBASNY submitted amicus briefs to the United States Supreme Court in support of overturning the Defense of Marriage Act. WBASNY's organizational model is being used by women attorneys in Croatia to form a women's bar association in that country.
Rockland County Women's Bar Association's programs and events are as varied as our members. We provide useful, practical and pertinent information to our members through our innovative CLE classes. We provide networking and social opportunities through such activities such as our Book Club and Holiday Party. Our Judicial Receptions and Annual Installation and Award Dinner allow us to highlight the accomplishments of our members and local leaders. This year we also have a Wine Tasting event and other fun and informative events planned.
The Rockland County Women’s Bar Association believes in giving back to the community by financially supporting the Rockland County YMCA Children's Center at the Rockland County Family Court, the Legal Aid Society of Rockland County and the Center for Safety and Change and United Hospice of Rockland. Our sponsorship of charity walks allows us to support organizations that share our commitment to improve the lives of women and children.
